DFPA FIREFIGHTER TRAINING WITH LIVE FIRE EXERCISES

June 23, 2026 10:40 a.m.

The Douglas Forest Protective Association is continuing firefighter training with live fire exercises through Friday.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachael Pope said training is taking place at pre-designated sites specifically prepared for live-fire training exercises, with control lines constructed around each training area to safely contain the fire. Pope said these hands-on exercises provide firefighters with valuable experience in fire suppression tactics, hose deployment, and incident coordination under controlled conditions.

The exercises also provide hands-on opportunities for DFPA’s newly onboarded camera detection staff and dispatch operators, allowing personnel to practice wildfire detection, reporting, communication, and coordinated response procedures in a realistic training scenario.

Pope said residents may notice smoke during these scheduled training exercises:

*Tuesday June 23rd through Friday, June 26th in the 4000 block of North Bank Road east of Roseburg and in the 4000 block of Gazley Road in the Myrtle Creek area.

*Friday June 26th near the 20000 block of OR-138 in the Elkton area.

Smoke may be visible between approximately 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. near each location.
