Fire crews dealt with the Turkey Hill Fire on Sunday.
Douglas Forest Protective Association Public Information Officer Rachael Pope said at approximately 4:00 p.m. firefighting resources responded to reports of a grass fire near Interstate 5 southbound near milepost 144 in the Oakland area. Pope said DFPA crews along with staff from the Oakland Rural Fire Protection District, Sutherlin Fire Department and North Douglas County Fire and EMS engaged in an aggressive initial attack.
The Oregon Department of Transportation established a single-lane closure along the southbound freeway in the vicinity of the fire.
DFPA resources assigned to the incident included six engines, one dozer, and a 10-person firefighting module. Aerial resources responding included an Air Attack platform and a helicopter.
Pope said the fire was 40 percent trailed by 6:00 p.m. and 100 percent trailed by 7:30 p.m. The Turkey Fire was confirmed to be 10.9 acres. All lanes of the freeway were reopened by 8:00 p.m.
