A Winston Police Department report said just after 5:20 p.m. dispatchers received a report that a teen had gone underwater near Riverbend Park in Winston and did not resurface.
First responders came to the scene and initiated search and rescue efforts. The 14-year-old was located in the water and was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
