The Winston Police Department has announced that the City of Winston has been awarded a Seismic Rehabilitation Grant of just over $2.34 million from the State of Oregon through the Oregon Business Development Department Infrastructure Finance Authority.
A WPD release said this significant investment will help strengthen and improve the Winston Police Station, ensuring that the facility remains operational during and after a major earthquake or other emergency event.
Since police stations serve as critical emergency response centers during disasters, the seismic upgrades will enhance the building’s structural resilience, helping protect officers, staff, emergency equipment, and the public while maintaining essential public safety services when the community needs them most.
WPD Chief Brandon Sarti said, “This grant represents an important investment in the safety and preparedness of both our department and our community”. Sarti said, “We are grateful to the State of Oregon for recognizing the importance of ensuring that Winston’s police facility can continue serving residents during emergencies and natural disasters”.
The release said the State of Oregon has indicated that funding will become available following the completion of the bond sale process and execution of the required grant agreements. Project activities funded through the grant will begin after those agreements are finalized.
Additional information regarding project timelines and construction updates will be shared with the public as they become available.
