A pickup struck an elk early Tuesday morning on Interstate 5 southbound at milepost 82.5 in the Glendale area.

An Oregon State Police report said just after 3:30 a.m. the front end of the pickup sustained heavy damage that caused airbag deployment. The animal was deceased and was salvaged by a passerby. The driver was not injured. A towing company recovered the vehicle.
