A driver was taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash on Monday night.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said shortly before 7:30 p.m. a 43-year-old woman was traveling south in her pickup on Upper Camas Road approaching the intersection with West Side Road in the Camas Valley area. The driver intended to go straight through the intersection which then turns into West Side Road. She stated that she had the sun in her eyes and did not see a driver in a second pickup, who was traveling on Upper Camas and had the right-of-way, until it was too late.
The first pickup hit the rear wheel portion of the second pickup, breaking the driveline and rear axles. The first vehicle continued into a nearby fence. The driver was initially going to be transported by ambulance but then refused and went in a privately owned vehicle to CHI Mercy Medical Center for complaints of pain to her shoulder and her knees. She was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way at an uncontrolled intersection.
