TRANSIENTS CITED FOLLOWING DOG BITE INCIDENT

June 23, 2022 10:25 a.m.

A pair of transients were cited following  A dog bite incident near a transient camp on Wednesday.

A Roseburg Police report said at about 9:15 a.m. a 34-year old Klamath Falls man was visiting Roseburg for the first time to play at the disc golf course near Northwest Stewart Park Drive. The man was unfamiliar with the course layout and found himself walking on the lower road into the transient camps. A pit bull belonging to the female transient charged the victim and began biting him on the left calf.

As the victim swatted the dog off his leg, a second pit bull, belonging to the male transient, jumped onto the man, biting him near his neck. One of the dog’s teeth glanced off the side of the victim’s skull, just behind his left ear. The victim was able to get the dog to detach as its owner ran out to grab the animal.

The victim suffered two puncture wounds- one on the back of his shoulder and one on the front of his trapezius. The man also suffered a gash to a finger on his left hand, a small scratch behind his ear and raised welts on his left calf. Medical recommended that the man go to the hospital or an urgent care to get the puncture wounds cleaned up and stitched up, but he refused.

The K9 deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office took both dogs into custody and then transported them to Saving Grace to be held on a ten-day quarantine.

The transients were cited for dog leash law violations.
