DRAZAN CLAIMS VICTORY IN GOP PRIMARY

Christine Drazan has claimed victory in the state GOP Primary.

Wednesday evening Drazan posted a statement on her campaign’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. Drazan said, “I’m so honored to be the Republican nominee for Governor of Oregon”.  The former House Republican Leader and Canby area state representative said, “The choice in this year’s election could not be more clear. If you want more of the same, you have two candidates to choose from. If you’re looking for a new direction for our state, then I’m your girl”.

Results from the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office show Drazan still leading with twenty-three percent of the GOP vote, with Bob Tiernan continuing to run second at eighteen percent.

Drazan’s remarks followed a Wednesday afternoon concession from Tiernan. Tiernan said even with the number of ballots still outstanding, he doesn’t think the numbers will come up enough to make a difference.  Votes in one of the state’s largest counties, Clackamas, remain largely uncounted, due to issues with barcodes not being able to be read.

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel released a statement Wednesday evening congratulating Drazan, saying she has “…set the stage for flipping the Beaver State red in November”.
