DEVIL’S KNOB COMPLEX GROWS BY OVER 1,350 ACRES

The Devil’s Knob Complex has grown by over 1,350 acres and is now listed at 41,219 acres.

An update from the Florida Red Incident Management Team said the Smith Fire is 24,532 acres. On the east side, crews continue to prepare for future strategic firing operations pushing northeast toward Forest Service Road 27. On the northwest side, crews are undertaking strategic firing operations near Deadman Mountain and building containment line in the Strat Creek Area. With smoke over the area reduced, helicopters have been able to conduct water drops on portions of the fire. On the south side, hand crews continue mop up operations in the Zinc Creek area.

The Big Hamlin is at 15,184 acres. Crews continue adding containment lines along the east and northeast perimeter near Fawn Creek and Whisky Creek, as well as conducting strategic fire operations, holding lines and mopping up from the southeast around and up to the northwest.

The Devil’s Knob Complex is 29 percent contained.
