DEVIL’S KNOB COMPLEX 15 PERCENT CONTAINED, BURNING IN 7,767 ACRES

The Devil’s Knob Complex is 15 percent contained, and is burning in 7,767 acres, as of the last report on Sunday night.

An update from Northwest Incident Management Team 8 said the Complex, originally managed as 40 plus fires, with new starts, due to containment, control and merging, has been reduced to 11 active fires. The majority are burning on the Tiller Ranger District, with several fires burning on private lands protected by the Douglas Forest Protective Association.

Mop up continues along the western flank of the Big Hamlin Fire, which is burning in just over 5,000 acres. Recent successful burn out operations reinforced lines on the northern and southern areas of the fire. Firefighters have worked on hot spots in drainages opening into Jackson Creek, using water to contain fire growth and prevent the fire from moving onto private lands. Burn out operations on the southern area of the fire are planned for the next few nights.

On the Smith Fire, which is burning on just over 1,250 acres, a heavy equipment group has completed the indirect containment line from the north-northwest corner of the fire down south to tie into Dumont Creek Road.
