An unattended debris burn sparked a natural cover fire on Tuesday afternoon about two miles south of Days Creek.

Kyle Reed from the Douglas Forest Protective Association said crews from DFPA and rural fire departments in Days Creek and Milo responded to the incident at about 2:15 p.m. Reed said the fire was located between Shively Creek Road and the South Umpqua River. The Shively Pond Fire burned about three quarters of an acre of blackberry briars and brush, before the forward spread of the fire was stopped.

Reed said firefighters remained on the scene of the Shively Pond Fire until 5:00 p.m., mopping up hot spots within the perimeter of the fire.
