GOVERNOR REQUESTS PRESIDENTIAL DISASTER DECLARATION

Governor Kate Brown has requested a Presidential Disaster Declaration for the ongoing wildfires in Oregon.

An update said the request follows a federal emergency declaration that was granted on September 10th and will bring “much needed” resources to the state’s response and recovery efforts.

Brown said, “Oregon is strong. Oregon is resilient. But to fight fires on this scale, we need all the help we can get”.  Brown said she is grateful for federal support, which will help to address urgent disaster response needs on the ground as Oregon moves towards recovery.

The update said the request includes operational response support, such as additional communications resources, damage assessment teams, search and rescue support, debris management, as well as shelter and medical assistance. Individual counties and tribes were also included in the request.
