The Umpqua National Forest and surrounding areas continue to receive lightning.
Pam Sichting from the UNF said approximately fifty lightning strikes were recorded during Monday night’s storms. Six additional smoke reports were received Tuesday morning from lightning with one confirmed fire as of 10:30 a.m. near Brownie Creek in the Tiller area. Sichting said the Douglas Forest Protective Association assisted with detection and response.
Rachel Pope of DFPA that fire was from a single, hollowed out snag that had been struck by lightning, igniting a small ground fire. Pope said fallers and a ten-person crew responded to the scene. The fire was extinguished and the tree was knocked down by 11:50 a.m. DFPA crews cleared the scene by just after 12:20 p.m.

A release said nine of the initial attack fires located over the weekend near Lemolo Reservoir have been contained and five of these are also controlled. In addition, the Forebay One Fire was lined as of Monday afternoon. All fires are being managed under a full suppression strategy.
Sichting said the Windigo Fire and the Potter Mt. Fire have been assigned to Northwest Incident Management Team 6. All other initial attack resources are being managed by Umpqua National Forest resources.
Scattered precipitation was received early Tuesday. Temperatures have moderated but should climb back up to near 90 degrees by the end of the week. Fire resources are expected to continue to pickup new starts and holdovers in the near future.
