ALMOST NO GROWTH ON DEVIL’S KNOB COMPLEX

September 24, 2021 11:00 a.m.

There has been almost no fire growth on the Devil’s Knob Complex in the past day.

An update from Pacific Northwest Team 2 said the fire, burning on the Tiller Ranger District, is still listed at 69,941 acres.

High temperatures have increased fire activity in the interior of the Big Hamlin and Smith Fires. Additional smoke was visible from the surrounding areas. Crews continued to secure the uncontained fire perimeter on the west flank of the Smith Fire while patrolling the edge, monitoring containment lines and engaging in suppression repair in the area.

A thermal trough is pushing through the area, bringing light winds and hot and dry conditions that will persist for a couple of days over the Smith and Big Hamlin fires. These conditions will contribute to an increased potential in fire behavior and smoke production.

Firefighters are continuing suppression repair operations on all of the fires in the Devil’s Knob Complex including the 23 smaller fires to the southwest of the Big Hamlin Fire.

The Big Hamlin Fire is still 100 percent contained at 19,377 acres while the Smith Fire is at 49,124 acres with containment up to 36 percent.
