CASTLE FIRE 94 PERCENT CONTAINED, FINAL UPDATE

August 14, 2026 10:50 a.m.

The Castle Fire is 94 percent contained, remaining at 3,613 acres.

It is 23 miles northeast of Tiller with 338 personnel assigned to the incident.

The final update from the Southern Area Gray Incident Management Team said firefighters continue to mop up and patrol for any heat sources. Rehab work, chipping and backhauling equipment from the fire line continues.

Temperatures are expected to gradually warm by 1 or 2 degrees each day, peaking on Sunday and Monday at about 5 degrees above normal. Daytime humidity will lower gradually as well, but overnight recoveries will remain good. Thunderstorm chances will be very low through the weekend, with most mid-level moisture and instability shifting to east of the area. With a trough overhead, a highly isolated storm is possible.

The Umpqua National Forest expanded closure area remains in place. All National Forest System lands, roads, and trails are closed to the public within the closure area. That includes several recreation areas.
