The Rough Patch Complex of fires, burning east of Glide, has grown to 3,913 acres, according to the latest update.
Brian Gales, spokesperson with Northwest Incident Management Team 13, says new area closures are in place to allow firefighters more unrestricted access to the fires.
Gales says that teams successfully caught, and stopped, a spot fire that sparked to life in the Steamboat drainage at 50 acres.
Officials say the drainage encompasses the 100,000-acre Frank and Jeanne Moore Wild Steelhead Sanctuary.
The update says the Rough Patch Complex is currently 3% contained, with 352 personnel staffing that complex.
The nearby Jack Fire, also east of Glide, is burning on a reported 23,355 acres.
The fire’s growth has slowed considerably, and fire officials say the Jack Fire is now 53% contained with 193 people assigned to the fire.
Fire managers say that calm winds, combined with an inversion layer, are preventing the smoke in the area from dissipating. They say this may cause the temperatures to remain lower than the highs originally forecast for the fire area this week.
Closures remain on the Umpqua and Willamette National Forests, including Steamboat Campground, Steamboat Falls Campground, Canton Creek Campground, Musick Guard Station, and Mineral Campground.
Copies of all closures and maps can be found here.
