A man on post-prison supervision out of Roseburg for a previous assault on a police officer, is in the Josephine County Jail following an alleged attack on an officer in Grants Pass on Friday night.
A report from the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety said officers were patrolling at the annual Boatnik festivities in Riverside Park. They were called upon to investigate two juveniles who were reportedly under the influence of alcohol. The report said when the officers attempted to detain the juveniles, they immediately resisted.
While one officer was struggling with a juvenile on the ground, 53-year old Nathaniel Wytcherley approached the distracted officer and allegedly kicked her in the face, causing an immediate loss of consciousness. Nearby officers fought with Wytcherley and took him into custody.
The report said the injured officer did regain consciousness before being transported to Three Rivers Community Hospital. She was treated and released.
Wytcherley was charged with second-degree assault, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and for a probation violation. He was detained without bail.
