A Lane County man was jailed after a police chase in Sutherlin on Monday.

Captain Kurt Sorenson of the Sutherlin Police said at about 8:00 a.m. an officer responded to the area of Dakota Street and Central Avenue on a report of a suspicious man walking in the parking lot looking at cars.

Sorenson said when the officer arrived, the suspect, identified as 27-year old Brian Wynn took off in a sedan. A pursuit was initiated west bound on Highway 138. Speeds of over 100 miles per hour were reached before the pursuit was terminated for safety reasons.

Sorenson said a few minutes later the vehicle was observed returning east on 138 headed back into Sutherlin. Spike strips were deployed but Wynn was able to miss them. As the pursuit entered Sutherlin, it was again terminated for safety reasons. Citizens reported that the vehicle had continued east to the Nonpareil area. Sorenson said that Wynn attempted to hide the car in the 8000 block of Nonpareil, in tall grass and brush.

Sorenson said a deputy from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office found Wynn and a foot chase ensued. The suspect was ultimately taken into custody.

Sorenson said that Wynn was in possession of a small amount of suspected heroin, and was exhibiting the behaviors of a person under the influence of methamphetamine. Charges included attempting to elude in a vehicle and on foot, reckless driving, providing false information to a peace officer, and for number of Lane County warrants.
