There are 2 positive cases of COVID-19 in the Roseburg School District.
Superintendent Jared Cordon said the Douglas Public Health Network notified RPS of the first positive case on Sunday. An adult at Green Elementary tested positive and has been advised to quarantine for 14 days.
Cordon said after contact tracing occurred, DPHN determined there were no known exposures among students and staff and that additional quarantines were not required. He said in an effort to provide transparency, it will be the practice of RPS to notify the entire community of a positive case, even if no quarantine is required.
The release said the district was notified on Tuesday that a staff member at Hucrest Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19. Contact tracing has determined that one classroom and one reading group must quarantine for 14 days and monitor for symptoms. Cordon said the district is contacting all affected families to notify them of this development. Quarantine guidance is being provided. DPHN staff will be in daily contact with those families, according to the release.
County Public Health Officer Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer said health officials believe there is no need to quarantine any cohort at Green Elementary, as the person who tested positive was not in school during their contagious period. Dannenhoffer said there is a need to quarantine cohorts at Hucrest, as the person who tested positive was in school during their contagious period.
