A Camas Valley home is a total loss following a fire on Monday.

A release from the Camas Valley Volunteer Fire District said at approximately 11:00 a.m. the fire was reported in the area of East Camas Road.

A tender arrived on scene in six minutes to find the structure with heavy smoke and flames showing from the front and side of the home. Firefighters immediately began suppression efforts and thanks to their quick response, the fire was contained to the structure with little to no extension into the surrounding wildland area.

At the time of the fire, no one was inside the residence. There were no injuries to residents or first responders.

The home sustained approximately 100 percent smoke damage and 75 percent flame damage, along with a partial roof collapse. As a result of the fire, two residents were displaced from their home.

The probable cause of the fire was investigated and determined to be an electrical short at an outlet inside a bedroom. The electrical issue ignited a fire that quickly spread to a nearby mattress, resulting in rapid fire growth.

Camas Valley Fire responded with the tender, three engines, an ambulance and a brush truck staffed by a total of nine volunteers. Crews remained on scene for approximately two and a half hours, completing overhaul and mop-up operations, and checking for remaining hot spots.

CVVFD was assisted by Tenmile Rural Fire District, Lookingglass Rural Fire District, the Douglas Forest Protective Association and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Due to the potential for the structure fire to spread into nearby wildland, DFPA had a spotter aircraft and helicopter overhead, ready to assist in the event of any extension into the surrounding vegetation.
