The Castle Fire, burning in the Umpqua National Forest, is up to 1,400 acres as of late Sunday night.

A UNF update said the fire is burning in steep, rocky, cliff terrain. On Sunday, the fire continued backing and flanking with short runs where terrain and fuels aligned. Crews are making good progress. Seven air resources were actively engaged on the fire Sunday. Additionally, two hotshot crews, multiple type 2 crews, engines, falling modules, water tenders, and heavy equipment supported this fire. Personnel are burning line along containment lines.

For firefighter and recreator safety, South Umpqua Falls Campground and Day Use Area are closed under an administrative closure effective Monday. Additionally, dispersed camping in the area is also closed under an administrative and public safety closure.

Ten other fires on the Umpqua National Forest are now contained, controlled or are out.
