A Brookings woman was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants following a rollover accident on Highway 38 near milepost 24 in the Scottsburg area.
An Oregon State Police report said at approximately 12:55 p.m. the driver of an SUV was traveling westbound when the vehicle left the roadway and traveled down an embankment, landing in a field. The SUV came to an uncontrolled rest on its top. The driver was assisted out of the vehicle by an OSP trooper and Lower Umpqua Ambulance personnel.
The driver was medically cleared and refused transport to the hospital. The woman stated that she swerved to miss a deer that was in the roadway. The driver consented to standard field sobriety tests and signs of impairment were observed. The woman was arrested on the DUII charge.
A towing company removed the vehicle from the accident scene.
