While fire season has not yet begun, crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association along with firefighters from the Tiller Volunteer Fire District and Milo Rural Fire Protection District responded to an estimated 1 to 1.5 acres fire near Dompier Creek Road in Tiller at approximately 4:00 p.m. Friday afternoon.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said the fire was located in second growth and wood debris. Pope said rural responders took immediate action to suppress the fire and have the forward spread knocked down. Crews waited on the scene until the fire was fully contained. Pope said no homes or structures were threatened by the fire.

A DFPA release said the incident is a great reminder that fire knows no season. Exercise caution when burning yard debris or when using fire in the woods.
