DOUGLAS COUNTY 4-H CELEBRATES YOUTH ACHIEVEMENTS/HONORS

The Douglas County 4-H Association celebrated a year of youth achievement, leadership and community service during its annual Recognition Night on Wednesday, October 21st at the OSU Extension office in Roseburg. Among the evening’s highlights was a standing ovation honoring John Fine for more than 55 years of dedication to 4-H and agricultural education.

Among the evening’s special honors:

  • Tom Findlay Outstanding 4-H Member Award — McKenzie Reed: Recognized for her leadership, community service and personal growth through 4-H, including serving as a county ambassador and representing Douglas County at state events.
  • Spirit of 4-H Club Award — Keepin’ It Country: Honored for exemplifying the values of 4-H through teamwork, kindness, mentorship and strong commitment to community service.
  • Mel Bohme Small Animal Award — Charlotte Nelson: Received support to expand her 4-H experience by raising and exhibiting turkeys, embracing a new opportunity to learn and grow.
  • Katherine Cory Alumni Award — Kristin Moyers: Recognized for her longstanding dedication to 4-H as a former member, parent, leader, Small Animal Barn Superintendent and 4-H Association Board Secretary.
  • Murphy Memorial Service Award — Tina Twarowski: Honored for her many years of unwavering dedication and leadership in 4-H, mentoring youth, coaching Spring Classic teams and serving two terms on the 4-H Association Board, including her final year as president.

The association also expressed heartfelt appreciation to Distinguished Service Award Recipients Cascade Community Credit Union, the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians and John Fine for their exceptional contributions to Douglas County 4-H.

The evening also recognized the extraordinary commitment of 4-H volunteers, with service pins marking milestones ranging from five to an impressive 58 years. Recognition Night served as a reminder that behind every 4-H accomplishment is a community of families, leaders, sponsors and supporters who make these opportunities possible.
