FISH FOOD PANTRY EXPANDS HOURS

February 4, 2025 3:05 a.m.

In response to the increasing need for accessible food assistance, The FISH of Roseburg is expanding its service to include one Saturday each month.

Beginning February 22nd, the pantry will be open on the fourth Saturday of every month from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. FISH Executive Director Jenn Reida said, “We know that many working families struggle to fit pantry visits into their schedules”. Reida said, “We’ve seen more and more families juggling work, school and other responsibilities while trying to make it during our usual hours. This extra Saturday opening is one way we can ensure that no family has to choose between their job and putting food on the table”.

A release from The FISH of Roseburg said food insecurity is rising at an alarming rate, especially among working families. According to Feeding America, 1 in 6 children in Oregon faces hunger, and many households with at least one working adult still struggle to afford groceries. The cost of food continues to climb, forcing families to make impossible choices between paying rent, covering medical expenses, and buying food.

Reida said The FISH of Roseburg is committed to feeding all who need food, and as demand grows, the organization is finding more and more families struggling to keep up with rising costs. Reida said this expanded schedule is just one of the ways they are working to ensure no one in Douglas County goes hungry.
