Congressman Cliff Bentz has announced that Yahir Conejo-Garcia, Bryson Jeppeson and Yael Estrada Gutierrez from Hermiston High School, are the 2024 winners of the Congressional App Challenge for Oregon’s District 2.
A release said the students created “The Room Builder 3000”. It’s a web application that helps users design and furnish a room. The students overcame many challenges by utilizing their knowledge of code management, html, and 3D modeling and learned the value of working as a team. Yahir has worked on an app and won last year’s App Challenge. His computer science teacher encouraged him to move to the next level of programming and work with others.
Bentz was also pleased with the team’s creativity and skill. Bentz said, “The Congressional App Challenge is to encourage students to pursue careers in coding, math or science. I hope Yahir, Bryson and Yael continue to improve and develop their coding, and teamwork skills”.
The release said Bentz encourages students from across Congressional District 2 to create and submit apps for the 2025 competition. Find more information at: https://bentz.house.gov/appchallenge
