COMMUNITY HELP NEEDED FOR WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA

October 15, 2024 3:20 a.m.

Community help is needed for this year’s Wreaths Across America wreath laying ceremony on Saturday December 14th.

Douglas County Commissioner Chris Boice has been working closely with location coordinator John Pierson. Pierson is battling terminal cancer, but his goal for many years has been to raise enough money to place a wreath on every headstone at the Roseburg National Cemetery. With the support of the Board of Commissioners, and generous corporate, foundation and individual donors, Commissioner Boice was able to secure the funds to make Pierson’s dream a reality.

Now with the project paid for, the next step is getting significant assistance to place all 7,000 wreaths following a ceremony on the grounds of the Roseburg VA at 1:00 p.m. Boice is seeking around 700 people for the effort. Already support has come in from a number of schools who have encouraged students and families to help out.
