ROSEBURG CITY COUNCIL TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED LAND SWAP

July 22, 2024 3:30 a.m.

Roseburg City Council will hold a public hearing on a proposed land swap at its meeting Monday night.

The city has initiated an amendment to its Urban Growth Boundary. If approved, the process will include removing two large parcels of land from the UGB that have significant development constraints, while adding a section of land in the Charter Oaks area that is flatter and much easier to develop. Monday councilors will consider an ordinance amending the UGB, annexing Troost Street right-of-way to the edge of the new UGB and amending the Urban Growth Management Agreement.

Annexing the Charter Oaks area into the city has been discussed for decades as a way to bring more buildable land into the city. The city has received significant support for this plan from a number of businesses and other public officials who believe it would help to alleviate a shortage of housing in the community.

A number of other items are on the agenda as well. The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the city council chambers. It can be seen on the city’s Facebook page, or viewed later at www.cityofroseburg.org
