Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed a transient Sunday for an alleged prior theft from an animal shelter.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at approximately 3:20 a.m. on March 27th an unidentified male and a female believed to be 31-year-old Ashley Edwards allegedly scaled the fence at Saving Grace Pet Adoption Center on Old Del Rio Road. The pair then reportedly cut the lock on the kennel holding Edwards two German Shepherd dogs, before leaving with the two dogs on foot to an unidentified vehicle.
Lieutenant Brad O’Dell said Edwards had surrendered the animals because she was unable to care for them. O’Dell said she was given a certain number of days to make other arrangements for the care of the dogs, otherwise they would become the property of Saving Grace. The time had expired prior to Edwards reportedly breaking them out.
Sunday Edwards was contacted on an unrelated matter. She was interviewed about the March incident, admitted to it and was taken into custody.
Edwards was charged with two counts of first-degree theft, and second-degree counts of burglary, criminal trespass, and criminal mischief. Edwards was detained without bail.
