Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed a man following a pursuit early Wednesday morning.
Just after 1:20 a.m. DCSO received a call from Oregon State Police informing them that a trooper had a Jeep eluding him while headed southbound on Interstate Five just south of Creswell. A deputy was parked just north of the Yoncalla/Drain exit when the vehicle passed him allegedly going 110 miles per hour.
The deputy was able to overtake the Jeep near Rice Valley where it took the exit. The jeep got back on the freeway and continued southbound. The deputy called the pursuit at that point. The vehicle continued at speeds of about 110 miles per hour. A Sutherlin Police officer was able to spike the front driver’s side tire about a mile north of Sutherlin. The Jeep continued to elude until the Winchester exit where it came to a complete stop.
The driver was placed into custody. He was identified as 50-year-old Nicholas Garcia. Garcia was charged with eluding police in a vehicle, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person. He was detained without bail.
