Wildlife Safari Seeking Year End Gifts

Dec. 29, 2023 6:25 a.m.

Wildlife Safari kicked off three new projects this year and is seeking year end donations.

The projects are:

*The Barnyard: a renovation of the children’s zoo

*The Rhino Boma Project

*The Giraffe Squeeze

The Barnyard project will allow for hands-on interaction with children’s zoo animals, including friendly goats and sheep. It will also include new exhibits like a barn owl house. In addition, Wildlife Safari is constructing a modern kitchen facility dedicated to the preparation of well-balanced diets for the diverse range of animals. The project will cost over $350,000 and is made possible through the generous support of the community, including 123 families and organizations.

The highlight of the annual benefit dinner this year was a shared commitment to the conservation of southern white rhinos and the expansion of the Rhino Boma. Thanks to dedicated supporters, $174,000 was raised at the event in support of the project. Through these funds, the game park is also planning to bring in a Southern White Rhino, Bonnie to join the current crash, Taryn and Kayode.

The Giraffe Squeeze includes a plan to expand the number of giraffes from the current 4. Wildlife Safari plans to purchase a “giraffe squeeze” which provides handlers and veterinarians the means to safely interact with giraffes without sedatives or anesthesia. The squeeze itself costs $80,000.
