In the KQEN Cultural Spotlight:

Umpqua Valley Arts will open its doors and galleries for a free open house event this Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to allow community members the opportunity to learn about the art and practice of creative fiber.

Partnering with the Umpqua Weavers & Spinners Guild, UVA aims to create a day of arts and culture in conjunction with the current exhibition in their Hallie Ford Gallery, which is titled “Filaments”.

Those who attend will be able to tour all 5 current exhibitions at UVA, tour “Filaments” with local guild artist experts, enjoy hands on experiences appropriate for all ages and even sign up for one of two specialized extended workshops held in UVA classrooms during the event. Those will begin at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

“Filaments” is a juried traveling exhibition of fiber arts made solely by local Oregon resident fiber artists. Sponsored by the Weaving Guilds of Oregon, this traveling show debuted at UVA in January. It will be on display locally at the arts center through March 17th.
