CITY OF ROSEBURG BUILDINGS TO CLOSE FOR HOLIDAY MONDAY

February 16, 2023 3:40 a.m.

City of Roseburg buildings will close next Monday, February 20th, for Washington’s Birthday, which is also known as Presidents Day.

A City release said that means that City Hall, the Public Safety Center, Roseburg Public Library, and other city buildings will not be open to the public. Police and firefighters will continue to provide public safety throughout the holiday.

Lobbies at City Hall and the Public Safety Center, both on Southeast Douglas Avenue, are normally open to the public weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Library hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays and from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

U.S. Code, which specifies holidays for federal employees, lists the name designated in the law – Washington’s Birthday – in celebration of the February 22nd birthday of the nation’s first president, George Washington. However, state and local governments refer to the third Monday in February as “President’s Day” as a way to honor all U.S. presidents, including Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday is February 12th.
