Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and five rural fire agencies along with deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a wildland fire about four miles south of Canyonville just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday night.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachael Pope said the 95 O’Shea was near Canyon Creek Road, just east of Interstate 5.

Pope said the estimated 4 to 6-acre fire is in heavy, dead and downed timber on steep terrain with limited availability. DFPA crews and all the responding firefighters worked through the night and into a day shift that includes additional resources from neighboring districts, fallers, and from the Coos Forest Protective Association.

As of mid-day Friday, the fire is 40 percent contained, 60 percent trailed and 100 percent lined with hose. Pope said there are no threats to homes or structures. Smoke is visible from the freeway but there is no threat. Through traffic will continue as normal.

The cause of the 95 O’Shea is under investigation with both the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Land Management involved.

Fire season remains in effect. More information at www.dfpa.net.
