August 3, 2022 10:50 a.m.

Lightning continues to be received over the Umpqua National Forest.

Pam Sichting from the UNF said aerial flights continue searching for smokes. Firefighting resources remain at the ready and are working diligently to respond to smoke reports that are detected. Sichting said all detections are being treated with a full suppression strategy.

Since July 30th, twenty new fire starts have been detected on the Umpqua National Forest. The largest, the Windigo Fire, east of Lemolo Reservoir, is being managed by Northwest Incident Management Team 6.

Of the remaining fire starts being managed by UNF resources:

*9 remain fully staffed

*11 have been fully contained

*4 have been controlled and are in patrol status

*2 have been called out

The Forebay One, Dorothy Creek and Fire #269 are each listed at 3 acres. All remaining starts are less than 1 acre.

Sections of Forest Service roads 60 and 2610 are closed. Many trails are closed as well including the Pacific Crest Trail which is closed from State Highway 138 to State Highway 58. That closure is due to both the Windigo Fire and the Potter Fire. Several campgrounds are also closed. The complete closure list is linked at: www.541radio.com
