Members of the Roseburg Public Schools Community Bond Development Committee began discussing priorities for facility improvements needed in the school district at the group’s second meeting on Wednesday.
Superintendent Jared Cordon said the committee is responsible for recommending projects to the school board for a May 22nd capital improvement bond.
Cordon said in the early phase of the committee’s work, group members are examining the needs for health, safety and security improvements; repairs and renovations; potential new construction; updated technology; and other projects. He said the intent of the board project is to improve student learning and well-being while also addressing the community’s needs.
About two dozen community members are part of the bond committee, which will hold four more meetings through November. Committee members are also expected to tour some of the RPS facilities.
Cordon said in addition to the committee’s work, RPS will be surveying the community in the coming weeks to learn more about priorities for local schools. The committee and the school board will use the polling results to help determine final projects.
The last bond measure to pass in Roseburg was in 2000. That bond was retired in November of 2020.
