13 more people have died related to COVID-19 in Douglas County, 205 more people have received new positive test results, and 2 more are presumptive, as of Wednesday.

County Public Health Officer Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer told News Radio 1240 KQEN, “It’s the worst two days in a row for local deaths during the pandemic”

The Douglas County COVID-19 Update covered information reported Tuesday and Wednesday.

Dannenhoffer said the deaths included an infant under 1 year of age who was diagnosed with COVID-19 on August 20th and passed away on Monday. Other deaths were a 74-year old woman, a 77-year old man, an 80-year old man, a 73-year old woman, an 83-year old woman, two 53-year old men, a 96-year old woman, a 79-year old man, a 74-year old man, a 70-year old woman, and a 75-year old man. Of the adults, 9 were listed as not vaccinated, 1 was fully vaccinated and 2 were not fully vaccinated.

Dannenhoffer said, “The significant number of deaths over the past month have been so incredibly tragic and heartbreaking”. He said while health officials have chosen not to provide detailed case information out of respect for the privacy of those that have passed and their families, he can say that some of those who died were perfectly well before they contracted COVID and died, while others were living with some to several underlying conditions. Dannenhoffer said all deaths are thoroughly investigated with medical records reviewed to make sure that the requirements for a COVID related death are met as per Oregon Investigative Guidelines.

The update said the total number of cases is now at 9,784. Of those, 9,488 are people that have received positive test results, and 296 are presumptive. 105 Douglas County COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 70 locally and 35 outside the area, including one that has been transferred out of state. 24 ventilators and 9 BiPap machines are in use. 16 COVID positive patients are in the Intensive Care Unit and 13 are in the Progressive Care Unit. 101 out of the 105 are not fully vaccinated.
