DEVIL’S KNOB COMPLEX GROWS BY OVER 4,300 ACRES

The Devil’s Knob Complex has grown by over 4,300 acres.

An update from the Rocky Mountain Type 1 Incident Management Team said on the Smith Fire, past operations and successful line construction provide a good anchor for burnout operations. Firefighters are working to increase line depths. This is planned through a combination of ignitions by firefighters and possible aerial ignition. Progress on a dozer contingency line will continue, allowing for a second line of defense should fire cross the primary fire line.

On the Big Hamlin Fire, fire activity continues to be diminished resulting in patrol and mop up actions by crews. Firefighters have begun backhauling equipment such as fire hoses and pumps. Suppression repair planning has begun. Patrol and mop up is taking place with more resources being shifted to the Smith Fire.

The Smith Fire is 24 percent contained while the Big Hamlin Fire is 56 percent contained.
