A release from the City of Myrtle Creek said that City Administration, the Mayor and Councilors were saddened to hear of the sudden passing of City Councilor Henry Stevens, who died unexpectedly in Myrtle Creek on Wednesday.

Councilor Stevens joined the Myrtle Creek City Council in January 2015. The release said, “He was a careful steward of the citizen’s tax dollars and kept a keen eye on the city’s budget. Along with City Council he served as a Grange member and a founding member of the Myrtle Creek Visitor’s Association”.

The release said Stevens was a United States Air Force veteran with a deep love for his country and community. Stevens started and led an annual reading of the United States Constitution in Millsite Park each September on Constitution Day.

Myrtle Creek Mayor Matthew Hald said “Henry Stevens was a great neighbor and City Councilman who worked tirelessly to improve our city”. Hald said “Our community is a better place to live today due in part to Henry’s leadership and efforts”.

Henry Stevens was 85.
