DEVIL’S KNOB COMPLEX UP BY 1,800 ACRES

The Devil’s Knob Complex has grown by about 1,800 acres.

An update from the Florida Red Incident Management Team said on the Smith Fire, firefighters continued to develop control lines as the fire saw some growth to the north and east. On the east and south sides, crews are implementing strategic firing operations as weather and resources allow to halt the fire’s advance. Along the fire’s northeast edge, firefighters are taking advantage of moderated fire behavior and using dozers to build indirect line to prepare for the future strategic firing. Crews continue to mop up previous firing operations and prepare roads for future use as fire lines throughout the perimeter.

On the Big Hamlin Fire, growth has moderated as firefighters work to further build fire lines and implement other control strategies. Containment lines along the west side are holding well. Along the southern perimeter, firefighters continue with strategic firing operations as weather allows.

The update said continued dry conditions and low humidity will likely continue to contribute to increased fire activity. Winds may realign to a northeasterly flow on Friday, encouraging fire activity in canyons and drainages that have been relatively quiet to date.

The Devil’s Knob Complex is now at 28,151 acres with containment still at 25 percent. 689 people are assigned to the fire.
