The Devil’s Knob Complex of Fires, on the Tiller Ranger District of the Umpqua National Forest has topped 20,200 acres.

An update from Great Incident Management Team 2 said additional containment on the western portion of the Big Hamlin Fire was accomplished on Friday. Burnout operations continue near the southwest and eastern flanks of the fire with crews working both day and swing shifts in this effort. The Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest will also be providing initial attack resources to assist with burnout operations.

On the Smith Fire, crews made good progress with burnout operations on Friday. Swing and night shift crews are being implemented to utilize the most effective times for these operations. The update said they are working to tie in to the 500 and 28 Roads in efforts to protect the tribal, private, and Bureau of Land Management lands west of the fire.

The 28 Road is temporarily impassible due to logs and rocks on the roadway. Crews with the Umpqua National Forest and the Douglas Forest Protective Association will be working to open the road as soon as possible.

A community meeting will be held Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Tiller Volunteer Fire Department on Tiller Trail Highway.

The Devil’s Knob Complex is 25 percent contained.
