JACK FIRE 76 PERCENT CONTAINED, REMAINS AT 23,002 ACRES

August 2, 2021 10:50 a.m.

The Jack Fire, burning on the Umpqua National Forest, is 76 percent contained, and remains at 23,002 acres.

An update from Northwest Incident Management Team 10 said on Sunday afternoon an isolated lightening storm over the Jack Fire’s southeastern flank ignited several new starts, and firefighters already working in that vicinity quickly moved to suppress these new starts. Later in the evening, another storm generated lightening with confirmed strikes over both the Jack Fire and the Rough Patch Complex. Crews are working to identify and contained any additional starts.

Crews working north of Highway 138E are successfully holding containment lines, while those south of Highway 138E are making progress tying into established control lines to contain the Jack Fire. On Sunday, crews mopped up and patrolled the entire perimeter, chipping across the northern flank and reducing fuel along the contingency line to the east of the 28 Road.

On the Rough Patch Complex, crews confirmed a total of 19 identified fires Sunday. Heavy equipment was used to reopen old roadbeds and cut along ridgelines. Current objectives are to keep fire east of Forest Road 23 and north of Forest Road 3815. Firefighters will be prepping existing roads for burnout operations and looking for opportunities to fight the fires more directly. Northwest Team 13 is now in command of the Rough Patch Complex, and will assume command of the Jack Fire on Tuesday.

550 people are working on the fires.
