July 16, 2021 3:30 a.m.

Staff with the Umpqua National Forest is seeking public comment on a feasibility study to determine the future of the Tiller Ranger Station.

A release said in consideration of the compound’s deferred maintenance costs, employee recruitment and retention challenges, and limited telecommunications connectivity, and with public feedback in mind, the Forest Service aims to take a comprehensive look at how to better invest for the Tiller Ranger Station’s current and future needs.

Staff would like to hear from community members, partners and stakeholders to help inform the study. As a result, the Forest Service will hold a virtual town hall meeting on July 21st at 4:00 p.m.

The release said the live event will provide the public with an opportunity to provide feedback to the feasibility study contractor. Those attending should be prepared to provide feedback on these topics:

*What Forest Service Ranger Station services are most important to you?

*What would you be most concerned about if the Tiller Ranger Station were relocated?

*What services provided at the Tiller Ranger Station are unique to its current location?

*If the Ranger Station moves, how could existing facilities best serve the community?
