JACK FIRE 20 PERCENT CONTAINED, 15,248 ACRES

The Jack Fire, burning on the Umpqua National Forest is now 20 percent contained, burning in 15,248 acres.

The update from Northwest Incident Management Team 9 said 776 people are working on the fire suppression effort. Public Information Officer Mary Nordeen said the additional acreage is within the planned containment lines.

North of Highway 138E, the east, west and northwest flanks are secured with mop up and patrol continuing. On the northeast, prep along the planned line continues and burning to remove vegetation is ongoing. As firefighters meet objectives north of the river, they are being moved to help increase the pace of accomplishment to the south.

South of Highway 138E, on the western perimeter of the incident, firefighters are continuing to burn lines and mop up. Work to prepare identified control and burning operations continues, along with holding on the 4714 Road on the east toward the southern edge of the fire. Cooler temperatures will assist in the firefighting efforts.

The update said 4 Type 1 aircraft and 1 Type 3 aircraft continue to support firefighters on the ground.

Highway 138E from Steamboat Creek to milepost 55 remains closed to vehicle traffic.
