AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT THROUGH MONDAY MORNING

July 8, 2021 3:40 p.m.

An Air Quality Alert is in effect until 11:00 a.m. Monday for central Douglas County and surrounding areas.

Staff with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality said a high concentration of smoke particulates is coming from the Jack and Bootleg fires.

The Alert said smoke can irritate the eyes, lungs, and worsen some medical conditions. People most at risk for adverse health effects include infants, young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and pregnant women.

The Alert said residents should stay inside if possible, and keep windows and doors closed. Avoid strenuous outdoor activity, use high efficiency particulate air filters in indoor ventilation systems or portable air purifiers. Be aware of smoke in the area and avoid places with the highest levels. Those with medical issues should follow their healthcare providers advise.
