July 6, 2021 10:30 a.m.

The Jack Fire burning in the Umpqua National Forest has grown to an estimated 900 acres.

Pam Sichting of the Forest Service, told News Radio 1240 KQEN that the fire is about two miles east of Island Campground. Sichting said it is moving northeast towards Ragged Ridge, which is away from Highway 138E. The fire is zero percent contained at last check.

Nine engines, four twenty-person hand crews, one “hot shot” crew and three water tenders are working on the fire. Sichting said additional resources are headed to the fire. Highway 138E remains closed between mileposts 40 and 47. Sichting said the North Umpqua River is closed to rafters as two helicopters are accessing water from the river.

Sichting said the fire could threaten PacificCorp transmission lines.

A Type 2 Incident Management Team has been ordered and will likely take control of the fire on Wednesday evening.
