CITY CANCELS MOVIES IN THE PARK FOR 2020

In an effort to mitigate the potential spread of COVID-19 and in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Orders, the City of Roseburg has canceled Movies in the Park for 2020.
Communications Specialist Eric Johnson said the annual series, held in Stewart Park, attracts hundreds of visitors each Friday evening in June. Johnson said families can enjoy pre-movie entertainment and then see a movie on a giant screen in front of the band shell. Due to the size of crowds generated by the event, staff determined that implementing social distancing measures would not be possible
Parks and Recreation Program Coordinator Val Ligon said the decision to cancel was based on safety. She said, “our community has done a great job of slowing the spread of COVID-19 and we do not want to undo that work by creating a situation where the virus could surface”.
Johnson said the City would like to thank those who participated in planning this year’s Movies in the Park. It is sponsored by Roseburg Parks and Recreation, US Cellular and Rogue Credit Union.
Staff hopes to bring the event back in 2021.
