An elderly woman died and an elderly man was taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle wreck in east Roseburg on Wednesday afternoon.
Sergeant Jeff Eichenbusch of the Roseburg Police said the accident took place just after 12:40 p.m. at the corner of Highway 138 East and Pomona Drive.
Eichenbusch said a sedan was on Pomona and pulled in front of an eastbound pickup. The pickup struck the sedan on the driver’s side, causing the pickup to spin and the sedan to careen into a nearby embankment on the south side of the highway near Lauren Young Tire Center.
The sedan’s driver, 76-year old Carol Mohr of Roseburg was pronounced deceased at the scene. The pickup driver, 86-year old Lowell Fisher, also of Roseburg, was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Oregon State Police assisted the Roseburg Police with a reconstruction of the collision. At this time, there are no signs that impairment was a factor. The roadway was narrowed to one lane in each direction while the investigation took place.
Other agencies assisted with the accident scene as well.
