WARMING AND DRYING TREND EXPECTED ON FIRES

A warming and drying trend is expected over the next few days with Saturday’s temperatures in lower 80s with relative humidity between 30-35 percent on the Windigo, Potter and Big Swamp fires.

An update from Northwest Incident Management Team said firefighters have been using helicopter water drops to cool two nearby lightning-cause fires. Fire crews are assessing those new fires. On the Potter Fire, firefighters are securing, strengthening and deepening containment lines while continuing to mitigate hazard trees along the roads. On the Big Swamp Fire, crews continue with mop up and work on suppression repairs. Work on the Windigo Fire is rapidly winding down as firefighters complete their repair work to roads and fire control lines.

The Windigo Fire remains at 1,007 acres and 95 percent contained. The Potter Fire is 614 acres with containment up to 44 percent. The Big Swamp Fire remains at 121 acres and is now 29 percent contained.

760 personnel are working on the fires. That includes 21 hand crews, 15 engines, 3 dozers, 7 water tenders, and 6 Type 1 helicopters.
