Monday’s report on COVID-19 cases in Oregon includes the highest single-day COVID-19 case total.
COVID-19 has claimed 11 more lives, raising the state’s death toll to 5,666, as of Monday. An update from the Oregon Health Authority reported 9,701 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19, bringing the state total to 430,931.
OHA said the new cases reported Monday include data recorded by counties for the four-day period between Thursday and Sunday. The update includes 3,534 cases of COVID-19 reported on Thursday, a new daily record.
Dr. Tom Jeanne, deputy state health officer and epidemiologist said, “We already have seen the impacts of the highly transmissible Omicron variant across the country since late December”. Dr. Jeanne said data shows the variant is here and is now fueling the surge in cases. He said “…It will likely lead to a rise in hospitalizations and, sadly, deaths”.
OHA said the number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 across Oregon is 498, which is 36 more than on Sunday. There are 104 COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit beds, which is 8 more than on Sunday.
The new cases include:
*2,565 in Multnomah County
*2,079 in Washington County
*1,057 in Clackamas County
*881 in Deschutes County
Locally OHA said there were 119 new cases in Douglas County
